12 Questions For Book Lovers • My Answers

This is just for fun!

When did you start reading for pleasure?

I was a very poor reader until my parents bought me the four book collection of the Harry Potter series for Christmas. After I’d grown bored of all my other toys, I didn’t have anything to do so I started to read. From there, the rest is history.

What popular book did you dislike?

Anything by Stephanie Meyer. Anything by E.L. James.

What book should everybody read?

I Am, I Am, I am by Maggie O’Farrell. It’s a memoir about the author’s 17 brushes with death. After reading it, I was given a new perspective on life and the many tiny, seemingly insignificant moments that has lead me to where I am now. It also let me see in more focus how I could very easily not be here.

book questions

What genre do you never read? Why?

Romantic fiction. Reading love stories is rare for me and I always walk straight past the section in book shops. I’m much more interested in fantasy, sci fi and historical fiction.

What’s your favourite book?

This is a very tough question, but ultimately I always come back to Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. It’s one of my favourite stories ever.

If you could have a pint with one author, dead or alive, who would it be?

Oscar Wilde. I’d say he’d be great craic.

book questions

Where is the best place to read?

I always see Pinterest posts of little reading nooks in a window box surrounded by floor to ceiling tomes, which would indeed be wonderful, but I’m happy enough to sit back against a plump pillow or two in my bed.

Who’s your favourite book character?

I love Kaz Brekker from the Six of Crows series by L. Bardugo. He’s so complex and meticulously crafted. Bardugo is gifted at characterisation, and Brekker is the cream of the crop.

What book death hit you the hardest?

Fred Weasley, no contest. I had to put the book down for five whole minutes while I bawled my eyes out. And this was the FINAL book, so putting it down at all was a big deal. I’ll never forget that description… “the ghost of his last laugh etched upon his face”… it still gives me shivers.

Which book world would you like to live in?

This is pretty generic, but honestly it’s the world of Harry Potter. I want to be a witch, I want to go to Hogwarts, I want to walk down Diagon Alley. It’s always going to be what I want.

book questions

What are you currently reading?

The Power by Naomi Alderman.

What book has been on your TBR the longest? Why?

Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. I saw it on offer in Easons and bought it because I’d heard really good things, but for some reason I’m not motivated to pick it up. I’m not sure why.
